About COST Action A21

COST Action A21 has started its work in November 2002 and will conclude in November 2006 with a final conference. More than 70 researchers from 21 COST Member States have been actively involved in the Action. The main work has been done within four Working Groups, which have met on a regular basis during four years. Moreover, several workshops were organised on specific themes. Several books and other publications have been prepared, and short-term scientific missions have been supported.

Final conference: Themes and design

The conference aims, on the one hand, at presenting the most important results of the work by the COST participants during four years. Therefore, the conference programme is structured along the four domains on which the COST Action has been working:

1. Evaluative research on restorative justice practices
2. Policy oriented research on restorative justice
3. Restorative justice theory
4. Restorative justice, violent conflicts and mass victimisation

These domains will successively be discussed in blocks of each half a day, in which the respective Working Group of the COST Action present their findings centred around the sub-domains they have dealt with (see scientific programme of the Action).

On the other hand, it is an explicit goal of the conference to widen the perspective. Therefore, other researchers from Europe and all over the world who are not part of the COST Action are most welcome at the final conference in order to comment on the Action's findings and to present their own research findings. This means that each programme block gives room to paper presentations on related restorative justice research by non-COST members.

Finally, each block will be concluded by an external expert who will reflect on the work done and on the further research agenda in the given domain.

The conference should also be the place where further research cooperation and networking is stimulated.
