Pool of trainers

There have been many developments in the understanding and application of restorative justice in recent times. The European Forum for Restorative Justice is keen to promote good practice and training in this growing field of work. In order to further the Forum’s objective of assisting the development of principles, ethics, training and good practice (cf Constitution art. 5), we are pleased to announce the foundation of a new resource of restorative justice trainers, henceforth known as the pool of trainers.

The intention of the Forum in establishing a pool of trainers is to provide national and local agencies throughout Europe and beyond with a resource of competent trainers in order to meet their training needs.

The trainers in the pool are members of the Forum; they adhere to the Forum’s Recommendations on the training of mediators in criminal matters and their underlying principles; they will have undergone a recruitment and selection process agreed by the Board of the European Forum. Applications for the pool of trainers will have to be renewed every two years. A 50 euro, non-refundable contribution per application is requested in order to cover administrative costs.

In administering the pool of trainers, the Forum acts as a point of contact between the trainer and the potential employing agent. The Forum monitors any training contracts secured under its aegis.

Membership of the Pool is recognition of having achieved a level of training competence and experience. Members will benefit from opportunities for ongoing professional development on a yearly basis through activities such as the Forum’s summer school and conferences, the provision of networking opportunities, remuneration, developing training skills and experience within an international environment, personal enrichment through exchange, and active participation in the development of restorative justice.

The anticipated outcomes of the pool of trainers are:

Like all activities of the Forum, the pool of trainers is based on an attitude of openness and respect, and on the willingness to learn from all members (cf Constitution art. 10). The development of the pool of trainers will be reviewed on an annual basis at meetings of the Board.
