07/04/2014Desistance project workshop in Austria discussed new perspectives of RJ for serious cases

On 3 April 2014 our partners Veronika Hofinger and Walter Hammerschick (IRKS) welcomed almost 30 mediators, delegates from the Ministry of Justice, academics, prosecutors and judges at the Austrian Ministry of Justice in Vienna. Together with four invited experts, the participants commented in a one day workshop the preliminary results of the Desistance and RJ project. Based on these outcomes, a discussion was launched on the possibilities of extension of the diversionary mediation practice in Austria to more serious cases and to post-sentence mediation.

01/04/2014Workshop on desistance and RJ

On 28 March 2014 almost 50 practitioners, policymakers, researchers and desisters were welcomed by our partners Shadd Maruna, Brendan Marsh and Kelvin Doherty at Queen’s University in Belfast. In a one day workshop they commented and discussed the preliminary results of the Desistance and RJ project, which is coordinated by the EFRJ. The outcomes of the discussion will be used to finetune/inform the second part of the research.

18/03/2014Judicial training on RJ in San Sebastian (Spain)

On 6 and 7 March 2014, the University Carlos III of Madrid – in collaboration with General Council of Judicial Power and Department of Justice of Basque Government – organised an innovative training on restorative justice under the title: “Restorative justice: a formative meeting for judges and prosecutors”. This two-day training is part of the EU project “Developing judicial training for restorative justice: Towards a European approach”, coordinated by the EFRJ and funded by the European Commission. The training was hosted by the Provincial Court of Justice in San Sebastián (Donostia) and the opening session was chaired by the President of the Provincial Court.
