There was "unprecedented interest" in restorative justice at the 11th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, in April 2005, in Bangkok, Thailand, according to Paul McCold, research director of the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP).
An official workshop on restorative justice (the first ever at a U.N. congress) ans several restorative justice-related ancillary sessions were organised.
