During the April plenary session of the European Parliament, the initiative of the Kingdom of Belgium with a view to the adoption of a Council Decision setting up a European network of national contact points for restorative justice was on the agenda.
The European Parliament discussed the topic based on a report prepared by the Committee on Citizens' Freedoms and Rights, Justice and Home Affairs and the opinion of the Committee on Women's Rights and Equal Opportunities. Mentioned report proposed to make a number of amendments to the original initiative.
After discussion in the European Parliament, convened in plenary session, a legislative resolution was taken which first amends and then approves the initiative of the Kingdom of Belgium.

The legislative resolution of the European Parliament, however, forms only a recommendation to the European Council, whose Committee of Ministers of Justice should consider it. A permanent working group of higher civil servants has the task to deal with the advise of the European Parliament. They will advise their respective ministers. The dossier will go back to the Council of Ministers of Justice after this advise.
It is unclear when a definitive decision in the dossier will be taken. |
