Poznań 2026

13th International Conference of the European Forum for Restorative Justice
Echoes of Restorative Encounters:
Voices, Evidence, and the Ripple Effects of Restorative Justice in Action
SWPS University in Poznań (Poland), 11-13 June 2026

The 13th International Conference of the European Forum for Restorative Justice explores how restorative justice contributes to personal transformation and, potentially, institutional and societal change. It aims to critically examine how we understand, evaluate, and make visible the impact of restorative justice, from individual experiences to systemic developments across criminal justice, education, communities, and beyond. Central to this exploration is the question of how restorative justice supports individuals in rediscovering their own power, how such empowerment may contribute to broader social transformation, and how this change can be made visible in respectful, inclusive, and credible ways that influence practice, policy, and public understanding.

The conference programme brings together a diverse range of perspectives, combining personal stories and testimonies from people with lived experience of restorative justice with large-scale scientific studies and national evaluations on its impact at both individual and societal levels. The programme will encourage discussions on restorative-oriented methodologies for evaluating restorative justice programmes and for assessing their effectiveness in driving meaningful social change. A key aim of the conference is to highlight unheard voices and alternative methods, ensuring inclusivity in how impact is documented and interpreted. It also seeks to foster honest reflection, learning not only from successes but also from challenges and limitations in practice, research and policy work.

Ideally, this conference can reframe how “evidence” in restorative justice is understood and created, offering practical tools and frameworks for practitioners, researchers and policymakers and advancing the conversation beyond the confines of criminal justice. Indeed, for a few years, the EFRJ community has been striving to position restorative justice not simply as a process or intervention, but as a movement for community transformation and systemic change within societies.

Join us in Poznań (Poland) on 11-13 June 2026 to be part of our journey, connecting voices, evidence and action to shape restorative justice and its ripple effects, driving forces for lasting social transformation. If you wish to attend te Practice Day (10 June), with two parallel pre-conference workshops, more info and registrations here.

Key Questions

  • What does restorative justice change at the personal, institutional, and societal levels?
  • How can we know, show, and communicate these changes respectfully and effectively?
  • How can we measure and evaluate restorative justice in ways that align with its core values?
  • Whose voices are included or excluded in our assessments and storytelling?
  • In what ways might restorative justice reinforce existing power structures?
  • How do we influence practice, policy, and public understanding together?

Poznań poster image with Mr. Periscope

The poster with Mr. Periscope

The Poznań visuals (Practice Day + Conference) show concentric circles in blue water, symbolising ripple effects: small actions creating broader impact.

And the periscope? Traditionally used to see beyond the line of sight (like in submarines), it reflects our aim to explore new perspectives beyond the obvious. This image resonates with the themes of our conference and the creativity of our host city. Indeed, while walking around in Poznań, you will recognise the street artworks of Noriaki, a local artist best known for Mr. Periscope, also called the Watcher.
