Biographies Organisational Abuses and Restorative Justice Working Group

Ivo Aertsen

Ivo Aertsen is Emeritus Professor of Criminology at the University of Leuven (Belgium). He holds degrees of psychology, law and criminology from the same university. At the Leuven Institute of Criminology (LINC) he has been leading the Research Line on ‘Restorative Justice and Victimology’ from 2001 to 2019. He has been chair of the European Forum for Restorative Justice from 2000 to 2004, and has coordinated various European research projects. He has been involved as an expert in restorative justice related work for international institutions such as the Council of Europe, the European Union and United Nations. Currently, he is doing research on the relevance of restorative justice for various contexts of institutional violence and environmental crime, as well as exploring the meaning of restorative cities. Francesca Bertelli

Francesca Bertelli is a lawyer and researcher in Private Law at Unitelma Sapienza University of Rome. She holds a Ph.D. in Business and Law from the University of Brescia (2020), where her research focused on sustainability in business activities. Her work spans private and market law, with particular attention to sustainability, corporate governance, and the legal implications of corporate social responsibility (CSR). She is the author of three monographs and numerous scientific publications exploring the interplay between market regulation and sustainable development. Her most recent research explores the application of restorative justice principles in civil law, particularly within corporate contexts, as a means to manage conflicts, rebuild trust, and promote accountability and responsible business conduct. She is also interested in how restorative approaches can strengthen corporate governance frameworks, supporting business transitions—green, digital, and generational—while aligning enterprise practices with broader social and environmental sustainability goals.

Janine Carroll

Janine Carroll is the Director of "Restorative Now", a training and culture-change organisation, focusing upon the implementation of sustainable restorative practice across a variety of settings. "Restorative Now" works internationally across Europe, South East Asia and Australasia, within the criminal justice, education, faith-based, health, housing and community agency sectors. These initiatives focus upon training, facilitating dialogue forums and the implementation of projects within these settings. Janine holds a post-graduate degree in Social Work and additional qualifications in mediation/arbitration and history. Janine has over 35 years’ experience in the restorative practice field, with accredited Trainer and Practitioner status with the Restorative Justice Council UK, and membership of the European Forum for Restorative Justice.

Daniela Gaddi

Daniela Gaddi is a criminologist and lecturer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). She specialises in criminology and restorative justice, with a particular emphasis on corruption and corporate crime.

Marie Keenan

Marie Keenan is Professor at the School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice, University College Dublin, Ireland. She is a criminologist, forensic psychotherapist, restorative justice practitioner and registered social worker. She is the author/editor of five books including Child Sexual Abuse and the Catholic Church (OUP 2012), Sexual Violence and Restorative Justice: Addressing the Justice Gap (with E Zinsstag) (OUP 2022) (Open Access) and Transforming Justice Responses to Non-Recent Institutional Abuses (OUP 2025) (with A-M McAlinden & J, Gallen) (Open Access). She has held several high-level appointments nationally and internationally and is currently a member of the Advisory Group on Ending Sexual Violence and Harassment in Higher Education Institutions in Ireland. Lili Lapouge

Lili Lapouge has worked across research, policy, and practice in restorative justice, with a focus on institutional accountability and systemic responses to harm. Her journey began in Southeast Asia, where she researched women’s access to justice and gender-based violence, before moving to Ireland to work on policing oversight. Over the past three years, she has served as a restorative justice facilitator, project manager, and researcher on historical child abuse cases in both Ireland and Northern Ireland, supporting victims failed by institutions. Trained as a circle-keeper with Kay Pranis, Lili uses restorative approaches to bridge the gap between institutions and those they have harmed, advocating for meaningful accountability and systemic change.

Claudia Mazzucato

Claudia Mazzucato is Associate Professor of Criminal Law at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan, Italy) where she also teaches Restorative Justice and Restorative Justice in complex settings. She is Co-coordinator the Federico Stella Graduate School of Criminal Justice and consultant to the Italian Agency for Restorative Justice (Conferenza Nazionale per la Giustizia riparativa). She is member of the Editorial Board of The International Journal of Restorative Justice.

Sara Rocchi

Sara Rocchi is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Sociology of organisations at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milan, Italy). She specialises in organisational wrongdoing and the dark side of organisations.

Alexia Stouraiti

Alexia Stouraiti is a lawyer and mediator, and Peacemaking Circles facilitator and trainer, also trained in Psychodrama. She is a PhD candidate at the University of West Attica, focusing on service-user involvement in the child protection system as a form of restorative justice.

Gemma Varona Martínez

Lucy Jaffé

Lucy Jaffé is a Board member and Treasurer of the EFRJ. She currently runs the Jaffeworks consultancy providing facilitation and policy services to NGOs and businesses. She developed and was CEO of Why me?, a leading UK restorative justice organisation for 13 years until 2024. Lucy has also worked in the software industry developing specialist products and services for the insurance sector. Prior to which she established ‘reunite’ with parents to support survivors of international child abduction.
