We are excited to co-organise the workshop “Restorative Horizons – Indigenous, Plural and Hybrid Pathways towards Justice and Peace” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 25th–27th November 2026 (during the international RJ Week).
The workshop will bring together scholars from the Global South and the Global North, thanks to a cooperation between the Institute for Peace and Security Studies - IPSS, The Australian National University Centre for Restorative Justice and the European Forum for Restorative Justice. The event is funded by John Braithwaite’s Balzan Prize.
The call for submissions closes on 30th April. Different formats (from presentations, to skills labs, to posters and more) are welcomed to explore the links between restorative justice and other other justice forms in community contexts (indigenous, customary, spiritual, and community-based approaches) and how a bridge between these can contribute to sustainable peace, and the healing of historical and contemporary harms.
The workshop in Addis Ababa will also formalise the launch to the African volume of The International Encyclopaedia of Restorative Justice, and will host the 2026 Annual Lecture of The International Journal of Restorative Justice (with Victor Igreja presenting on restorative justice in the portuguese-speaking African countries), both publications of De Gruyter Brill's publishing house.
