PreventX 2026 - Stories for Change

Preventing family and gender based violence requires spaces where practitioners, researchers and advocates can learn from one another, share experience and strengthen collective responses. Reentry Simulation for Students

Women leaving prison often face complex structural barriers when rebuilding their lives, from employment and housing challenges to navigating supervision requirements and financial pressures. On March 11th 2026, Eastern State Penitentiary will host the event titled "Reentry and Restorative Justice Day", a simulation designed exclusively for school groups from the School District of Philadelphia. Students will be assigned a fictional persona and navigate scenarios that reflect the realities of women returning home after prison. Delivered in partnership with Why Not Prosper, a grassroots organisation led by and for formerly incarcerated women, the programme will conclude with a guided reflection where participants discuss their experience and the criminal justice system and the challenges many women encounter during reentry.

"They Didn't Burn Witches, They Burned Women": Gendered Criminalisation Webinar Series

Hosted by the California Public Defenders Association, this live webinar series explores how the criminal legal system punishes women’s behaviour, particularly when individuals respond to violence, poverty, pregnancy outcomes, or expectations around gender conformity. Drawing on practical experience, the sessions explore how gendered punishment operates across multiple systems, including criminal courts, family regulation, and medical decision-making. The series offers a practical, defence-focused approach to representing pregnant and parenting clients, addressing the realities of women’s incarceration, the intimate-partner-violence-to-prison pipeline, and the complexities of navigating parallel criminal and family court proceedings. Presenters emphasise constitutional analysis, interdisciplinary collaboration, and trauma-informed advocacy, equipping participants with tools to recognise gender bias and challenge coercive state action. Registration fee is $125, and recordings will be available to participants after the series concludes.

Spotlight on Women's Lived Experience at Poznań: Voices Shaping Restorative Justice

At our upcoming International Conference in Poznań, one of the plenaries will focus on the powerful insights of people with lived experience of restorative justice and the ways their journeys influence wider practice and public understanding. Among the invited speakers is Luce Goutelle, artist, activist, and researcher with the collective Loop-s, and director of the theatre production Les réparations, which explores victim-offender mediation in cases of sexual violence. Her work exemplifies how creative and research-driven approaches can amplify the perspectives of those directly impacted by harm, offering both reflection and inspiration for practitioners, policymakers, and communities. This session is part of a program that will feature diverse voices and experiences, emphasising the importance of centring lived experience in restorative justice conversations.
