Restorative Practices in Schools: Places Still Available

The course Restorative Practices in Schools, led by senior trainers and educators Chris Straker and Marion Virányi Fontan, offers educators, school leaders, and practitioners working with young people a practical and reflective opportunity to strengthen restorative approaches in educational settings. Places are still available, and we warmly encourage interested participants not to miss this opportunity. This course is part of the EFRJ’s 4th Winter Academy, taking place in Leuven from the 2nd-6th of February, where we look forward to welcoming an international group of practitioners for an intensive learning experience. The Academy also includes the course Advanced Restorative Justice Skills, which has already reached full capacity. Organisations and networks are invited to share this opportunity widely.

Nominate a Laureate for the 8th European Restorative Justice Award!

The EFRJ Board invites our members to submit nominations for the 2026 European Restorative Justice Award, celebrating outstanding contributions to the field across Europe. This biennial honour recognises individuals, groups, or organisations that have significantly advanced restorative justice through research, practice, or policy. While only EFRJ members may submit a nomination, nominees do not need to be members of the Forum to be considered. We encourage you to help us recognise innovation and dedication by submitting your nominations via the webform before the 15th of February. The winner will be presented with the Award during our upcoming International Conference in Poznań.

Poznań 2026: Registration Opening Soon!

Join us in Poznań, Poland, from the 11th-13th of June, 2026 for the 13th International Conference of the European Forum for Restorative Justice. Under the theme “Echoes of Restorative Encounters: Voices, Evidence, and the Ripple Effects of Restorative Justice in Action”, we will gather at SWPS University to examine how restorative practices drive substantive change across personal, institutional, and systemic levels. This year’s programme bridges the gap between empirical research and lived experience, bringing together a global network of practitioners, academics, and policymakers to evaluate the long-term impact of restorative justice initiatives. Following a high volume of submissions this past December, we are currently finalising the selection of workshops that will form the core of our sessions. These contributions, alongside plenary discussions and local field trips, will offer deep insights into the evidence-based outcomes of restorative action in criminal justice and beyond. With registrations scheduled to open this January, we invite you to visit our site to preview the evolving program and prepare to join the conversation in Poznań.

Human Rights Manifesto: Looking Ahead to 2026

As we begin the new year, our Human Rights Manifesto Campaign continues to gain momentum. To date, the Manifesto has been signed by 60 organisations and 138 individuals, reflecting the strong, collective commitment and call to recognise restorative justice within the human rights framework, not only as a means to uphold human rights, but as an inherent part of them. In 2026, our focus is on expanding this movement further. We aim to significantly increase the number of signatories, engage key human rights organisations and networks, and broaden the reach of the Manifesto across Europe and beyond. We invite you to support this goal by reading, signing, and sharing the Manifesto within your networks and helping to amplify this important call.

Moment of Inspiration

This week, we highlight Sound and Detention, an innovative new collection edited by Lucy Cathcart Frödén, Kate Herrity, and Áine Mangaoang. Bringing together over 40 contributors from around the world, the book explores how sound and silence in places of detention influence experiences that range from harm and control, to connection and resistance.”

The volume invites readers and listeners to ‘listen nearby,’ attending to diverse perspectives and to the links between listening, power, and social justice through a combination of scholarship, memoir, experimental writing, and audio works. Published by Bloomsbury, the e-book is already available, and the hardback will be released on the 8th of January 2026.

If you are in Oslo, join the public bokbad on the 19th of January at 12:30 CET to celebrate the launch, featuring short film screenings, discussions, and shared listening!
