It's Restorative Justice Week!

The International Restorative Justice Week begins this Sunday (November 17th)! Join us in the global campaign and celebrations with the theme “The Promise of Restorative Justice in a Polarising World.” This is an opportunity to share your message about restorative justice, reflect on its impact, and celebrate the remarkable work done in our professional communities. Here's how you can get involved:

Restorative Justice Week Magazine

The Restorative Justice Week Magazine, published by the European Forum for Restorative Justice (EFRJ) for Restorative Justice Week 2024, offers an in-depth exploration of this year's theme: “The Promise of Restorative Justice in a Polarising World.” From the testimonies of the Parents Circle connecting Israeli and Palestinian bereaved parents through the reflections by members of the group of people affected by the 2016 Brussels terrorist attacks to the European Restorative Justice Award recipient The Encounter of the Encounters group, it includes moving accounts on how restorative justice can address the divisions within our societies. It also presents the significance of the Restorative Justice Week, and gives a snippet of the abundance of events organised around the world to mark the campaign. There is many more in it! Please download and share the magazine widely to support the cause of #RJWeek. You are also welcome to print it and use it on your events!

#RJWeek: Spain
 
Victimología corporativa

On the 19th of Noveber, at the University of Basque Country, a roundtable will discuss what restorative justice can offer to companies/corporations at the level of prevention, intervention and reparation of environmental and more than humans harms. Another roundtable, online and offline, from 16:30-17:45 CEST will hold a debate on applying Restorative Justice research results to terrorism. To receive more details email Gema Varona.

Narrativas Restaurativas

This event will highlight how restorative justice can create spaces for dialogue and understanding in a conflict-ridden, polarised world. Hosted by the Government of Navarre, the event will be in Spanish on November 18th. To receive more details email Jorge Ollero.

 

Challenges of Restorative Justice in Different Contexts

To celebrate International Restorative Justice Week the Sociedad Científica de Justicia Restaurativa is organising an international conversation in collaboration with Eges Bolivia and the Sociedad Cientifica de Justicia Restaurativa. On November 18th and 20th at 23 pm CET.

"Je verrai toujours vos visages"

A film screening featuring the movie "All Your Faces" will be held at the following locations:

  • 20th November at 8:30 pm at the Cabaret l'Escale in Migennes
  • 21st November at 8:15 pm at the Les Montreurs d’Images cinema in Agen
  • 22nd November at 9:00 am in Espace Média Grand Narbonne
  • 22nd November at 7:30 pm in Cinéma Mégarama in Chalon-sur-Saône (With a discussion after the movie)
Ciné-débat "Rencontre avec mon agresseur"

On November 18th at 8:30 pm, there will be a screening of the movie, "Recontre avec mon agresseur". This will take place in l'Hôtel de Ville in Tonnerre.

Ciné-débat "Téhachapi"

On November 21st at 7:30 pm, there will be a discussion at CGR Cinema in Auxerre following the screening of Tehachapi. The event will cover restorative justice, support for individuals under judicial supervision, and highlight the work of personality investigators, probation officers, and cultural activities in detention.

 Journée de sensibilisation

A restorative justice awareness day will be held at the Auch Judicial Court. The IFJR will be present, and you can explore the book "Pardonner" by Anaïs Gletty and Nathalie Mazier. This event is open to the public and will be on the 18th of November.

La justice Restaurative sur le Ressort du Tribunal Judiciaire 

Awareness of existing systems, sharing of experiences, and presentations by professionals. Organized by IFJR and taking place in Lille. 

 
#RJWeek: Italy
"Ten Years - Ten Lectures": Tenth Anniversary of CeSGReM

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of CeSGReM, ten lectures were held, two for each continent, across five days. This series aimed to provide a global, multi-perspective overview of evolving restorative justice practices, and reflecting on the transformations and challenges of restorative justice worldwide. This event took place on the 15th of November.

Crisi della Giustizia Penale e Rimedi "Riparativi"

This training event will examine Legislative Decree no. 150/2022 on restorative justice within the context of adult and juvenile criminal proceedings. The event is aimed at legal professionals and it will take place on the 20th of November.

Prevenzione e contrasto alla violenza di genere in Lombardia

On November 21st at 9:00 am in Varese there will be a conference to present the results of the research conducted by the CeSGReM research centre in synergy with Polis-Lombardia on victim assistance activities in Lombardy with particular reference to victims of gender-based violence.

Nuovi Sguardi Sulla Giustizia

Screening of a little cineforum about other looks at justice. The movie is "I nostri ieri" and tells the story of a film workshop in an Italian prison and how, through storytelling we begin to tell the story of the people involved in the crime.

Un'altra Giustizia E' Gia' Possibile

On the 22nd of November this event will be about guests talking about their experience with restorative justice. Especially relevant is the presence of former magistrate Gherardo Colombo and Lucia Montanino.

A Conversation With Bernhard Hulla

On November 27th at the Willy Brandt Foundation in Rome, Bernhard Hulla will discuss restorative justice's impact on vulnerable communities, prisons, and social growth.

#RJWeek: Slovakia and Estonia
"Chráňme ženy a deti pred násilím" 

LUNA, n.o. is hosting its 6th annual conference, "Protect Women and Children Against Violence," on November 19th. The conference will explore violence as a three-part story: the victim, the perpetrator, and the witness, highlighting the interconnectedness of their experiences and the cycle of violence. 

Conflicts in our lives and how to deal with them
NGO RuaCrew is organising practical workshops for young people (grades 6 and 7) on how to deal with conflict. These workshops will be held on the 18th of November.
 
#RJWeek: United States and Canada
Community Building Circle

On the 19th of November, join the National Association of  Community and Restorative Justice's (NACRJ) online community sharing circles. This is an online event and registration is free. Click here to learn more and register!

On the 20th of November, West Virginians will gather across the state in libraries, schools, churches, and other venues to celebrate and strengthen communities through Restorative Justice talking circles. For more inforation read here!

On the 17th to the 19th Noveber, the NRJS annual symposium is host to a national gathering of practitioners, researchers, academics, community members, advocates, systems representatives, policy and lawmakers, educators, other experts and stakeholders interested in restorative justice and its transformative potential.

Moment of Inspiration

The documentary "Au-delà de nos larmes" offers a profound exploration of loss, resilience, and the journey toward collective healing. Part of the EFRJ’s #REstART initiatives on arts and restorative justice, the EFRJ organises a screening and multilingual dialogue to delve into how survivors, victims' families, and parents of young people affected by extremism come together to understand and process trauma. The film and the following discussion reflects on the question: What happened to us? Through the voices of Retissons du lien, this event inspires a vision of a more compassionate and united society amidst adversity. You can attend at Cinéma ZED on the 12th of December at 7:30 pm.
