Mark Walters, UK
Mark Walters is a Professor of Criminal Law and Criminology in Sussex Law School. His research interests are focused primarily on hate crime studies, as well as criminal law and criminal justice reform with a special emphasis on restorative justice practice and theory. Mark previously completed his doctorate in law (criminology) specialising in hate crime and restorative justice at the Centre for Criminology, University of Oxford (2012). He has also completed an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice (Research Methods) at the Centre for Criminology University of Oxford (2008), an LLM specialising in criminal justice at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia (2006), and an LLB, at the University of Sussex (2002). Mark is particularly interested in connecting academic research to policy and law making. He has advised (advises) on hate crime to the Home Office, Law Commission, Metropolitan Police Service, and the London Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime, as well as numerous NGOs and civil society organisations. Mark has also presented research evidence in the House of Commons (UK), the European Parliament (Brussels), and the Oireachtas (Dublin). Most recently he has delivered lectures and training for the United Nations' Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in Tokyo.
Malin Roiha and Ignacio Elpidio Domínguez Ruiz, Spain
Malin Roiha is a researcher at the European Social Research Unit, part of the Department of Social Anthropology of the University of Barcelona. She is currently involved in the research and coordination of the LetsGoByTalking project, and has previously conducted research related to hate crimes, hate speech, LGBT-phobia, racism and victims' rights.
Ignacio Elpidio Domínguez Ruiz holds a BS in Business Administration (Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid) and a BA in Art History (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia), a MA in Publicly Oriented Anthropology (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) and a MA in history research (UNED): He also has a PhD in Human Sciences (Anthropology) from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, with a thesis on the role of the LGBTI Pride in Madrid’s tourism promotion and image, regarding World Pride 2017. His research focuses on the intersection of tourism with urban and LGBTI studies. In the European Social Research Unit he works as a researcher in the Let’sGoByTalking project.
Jasmyn Story, USA
Jasmyn Elise Story is an international Restorative Justice Facilitator, Doula, and the founder of The People’s Coalition and Freedom Farm Azul. Named one of Vice’s 31 Women Making History by Creating a Better Future, they are a dedicated human rights activist with a decade of experience working in the voluntary sector. As the former Deputy Director of Social Justice & Racial Equity for the Office of the Mayor of Birmingham, Jasmyn co-led the launch of the State of Alabama’s first government sustained Women’s Initiative. After completion of their M.A. in Human Rights at the University College London, they are currently completing their Ph.D. as a third-generation Tuskegee University student.
