This webinar, organised by the EFRJ Restorative Schools Working Group, focuses on restorative and relational leadership as a way of intentionally shaping positive school culture. Titled Show, Don’t Tell: Relational and Restorative Leadership, the session explores how leaders set culture not through policies or slogans alone, but through their everyday interactions, relationships, and decision-making.
Rather than simply talking about values like respect, accountability, and care, restorative leadership is about living those values visibly. This webinar examines what it means to lead by example and how restorative principles show up in real leadership practice.
Who is it for?
This webinar is for anyone with an interest in leadership, whether formal or informal. It is particularly relevant for:
- Middle leaders
- Senior leaders
- Pastoral leaders and coordinators
- Teachers aspiring to leadership roles
You do not need to hold a leadership position to benefit - the focus is on how leadership is exercised through relationships, influence, and everyday practice.
Why is it useful?
School culture is shaped far more by what leaders do than by what they say. This session is useful because it:
- Makes restorative leadership visible and concrete
- Shows how values are communicated through behaviour, tone, and relational choices
- Helps leaders align their leadership style with the culture they want to create
- Allows participants to see restorative principles in action, not just in theory
By observing and discussing real leadership practice, participants gain clarity on how restorative approaches can be embedded authentically and sustainably.
What will happen?
The session will begin with a 15-20 minute facilitated dialogue between school leaders and restorative practitioners, exploring how restorative leadership looks in practice across different roles and contexts. Participants will then move into small-group breakout discussions to go deeper, reflect on their own leadership contexts, and explore how these ideas apply in their schools. Discussion prompts will support meaningful conversation and shared learning.
Breakout rooms will be offered in multiple languages, allowing participants to engage in richer discussion with others in their preferred language wherever possible.

The main plenary session will be delivered in English. Breakout rooms will be offered in multiple languages, with discussion prompts provided in participants’ chosen languages wherever possible, allowing them to engage directly with others in the same language group.
